VIRTUAL OPTION STILL AVAILABLE
The NY governor is banning events of 500 or more. Our Runner in Red 5K, with its participants, volunteers and spectators will exceed that size, and thus we’ve asked our race manager, elitefeats to postpone our Sunday race.
Here’s how the Virtual Run will work.
- Go for a run on your own, with family or friends.
- Go to the Runner in Red result page https://elitefeats.com/race-results.asp?ID=20145
- Search for your name and click ‘update’
- Enter your time, upload a selfie and/or picture of you on your running app (suggestion: wear something red!) ALSO, you can post on Instagram at #RunnerinRed.
- That’s it!

ABOUT
The Runner in Red 5K draws its name from a real-life Boston Marathon legend. The story goes that the first woman to run a marathon in America snuck into the Boston Marathon in 1951. She “wore red,” according to the legend, in an era when women were not allowed to compete.
Tom Murphy’s novel offers a search for the mystery runner “in red,” while exploring the history of women’s running. Proceeds from the book support the cause.
We invite men and women runners to WEAR RED in our March 15th 5k race. All participants will get a Runner in Red t-shirt if you choose to wear that. Our goal is to help create awareness for our Runner in Red charity campaign to find a cure for lung cancer which takes the lives of more women than any other cancer.

A $25 fee for brunch – but all runners will receive a free pint of Barb’s Beer with their race number.

Runner in Red, by Tom Murphy, is based on a real-life Boston Marathon legend that a woman “wearing red” snuck into the Boston Marathon in 1951, fifteen years before history knew of the first woman runner. The novel is a mystery, love story and family drama that explores the history of women’s running. Tom is contributing all profits from the novel to the Barb’s Beer cure lung cancer campaign.
