Avigdor’s Helping Hand
Avigdor’s Helping Hand seeks to provide immediate, emergency and short-term relief, both financial and non financial to families in our communities who have sustained the recent loss of the primary breadwinner, and financial assistance to orphans who are getting married in the near future.
Michael Simanowitz
Michael Simanowitz grew up in Forest Hills Queens and lived in Electchester in Flushing . He represented a racially diverse community which included parts of forest Hills and flushing. His constituents lived in parts of College Point, Whitestone, Kew Gardens Hills, Pomonok , Briarwood, Kew gardens, and Richmond Hill. As a child he attended Yeshiva Tifereth Moshe in Kew Gardens. Mr. Simanowitz volunteered in the 107th precinct auxiliary unit rising to become a commander. Mr. Simanowitz was elected to the New York State assembly in 2011 replacing assemblywoman Nettie Myers for whom he served as chief of staff for roughly 15 years. He wasn’t about self aggrandizement, but he was about helping people. He always did his job quietly and without fanfare. He was widely respected by his peers and partners in government. He was always a strong voice for all his constituents and cared deeply about the community he served.
DIRECTIONS
SUBWAY
The closest subway station is Mets-Willets Point on the number 7 subway line (view MTA subway map).
Exit the train and follow the signs to Flushing Meadows Corona Park. This will lead you across a bridge. Essentially, you'll first head for the Unisphere - pass it - and then walk over the footbridge over the Long Island Expressway to get to the race staging area at Meadowlark Circle at the North end of Meadow Lake. It’s a little more than 1 mile from the Subway station to the race staging area (the perfect warm-up jog!). View map of walking route from Mets-Willets station to race staging area

DRIVING
There is a large parking lot - free parking - right next to the race staging area
** IMPORTANT ** IMPORTANT **
** Due to major construction in the area of Flushing Meadows Park north of Meadow Lake, currently the only route to the parking lot next to "Race-Day Central" is to enter the Meadow Lake section of the park from Meridian Rd **
The easiest option is to use this google map link to take you to the intersection of Meridian Rd. & Meadow Lake Rd. West (inside the park), and then follow these written directions:
1. From the intersection, turn south onto Meadow Lake Rd. West. The is no street sign, but there is a "Flushing Meadows" sign saying "Meadow Lake" with an arrow. (Ignore the orange "entrance closed due to construction" sign, if it is still there)
2. You will pass underneath the Long Island Expressway and several overpass ramps, and through the constructions zone. Follow the sign to the right that says parking lots.
3. The road curves to the right. After about 0.3 mi (just after passing underneath another overpass) the parking lot entrance will be on your left. Race-Day Central is beyond the opposite side of the parking lot, near Meadowlark Circle.
We do not recommend using navigation apps other than Google maps (such as Waze and Apple maps), as most of them do not recognize some of the roads inside the park and can take you to the wrong part of the park on the wrong side of the expressway. (Flushing Meadows park is HUGE, larger than Central Park).
Alternatively, to navigate without GPS you can use these written directions from any of the major expressways / parkways in the area to take you to the the intersection of Meridian Rd. & Meadow Lake Rd. West, then follow the written directions above to Race-Day Central.

To view the location of Race-Day Central on google maps, you can either click this google map link, or type in "Meadowlark Circle, Queens, NY 11375", but DON'T use GPS to try to navigate directly there, it may try to send you through one of the park entrances that are currently closed.
